Luckily, we've come up with the following tips to help you enjoy the beautiful outdoors even in the heat.

1. Wear Sunscreen
One of the best and easiest ways to protect yourself from the sun is to wear sunscreen. Ultraviolet (UV) rays can cause skin damage so it’s important to wear sunscreen anytime you’re going to be outdoors for more than 15 minutes. The Skin Cancer Foundation recommends using a broad-spectrum sunscreen that protects against both UVA and UVB rays and you should choose a sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher.
You can also choose to wear sun-protective clothing that can absorb or block harmful UV radiation. It’s a simple way to protect your skin and you’ll never need to reapply like you would with sunscreen.
2. Stay Hydrated
Whether you are spending time outdoors or indoors, hydrating your body is extremely important when the temperatures start to rise. Water is essential to almost all bodily functions, from lubricating joints to pumping blood to the heart. As we get older, it’s even more important to stay hydrated because thirst cravings tend to diminish with age. In fact, a study from the University of California, Los Angeles School of Nursing found that up to 40% of elderly people may be chronically underhydrated.
Try carrying a water bottle with you all the time so you can always be drinking or eating foods with high water content. This may include cucumbers, watermelon, lettuce, strawberries, and celery.
3. Find Some Shade
The sun is at its strongest between 10 A.M and 4 P.M. so if you need to be outside, try scheduling your activities around this time. If you want to walk the beach, try walking at sunrise or sunset, if you are wanting to play a round of golf, head out early and then go inside for lunch. There are plenty of options to still enjoy your favorite activities without being out during the hottest point of the day. However, if you have to be out during the prime sun time, then make sure that you bring shade options like an umbrella, tent, or wide-brimmed hat.
4. Enjoy Something Indoors
Naples, Florida although known for its beautiful beaches and sunsets, has a wonderful art and culture scene. If you are looking for something indoors, make sure you check out one of the art museums such as The Marco Center for the Arts or The Baker Museum. You can have a fun and educational afternoon all while staying out of the sun!
Another great indoor option is heading to a fitness center where you can go for a walk, take a group fitness class, or possibly even go for a swim. This is a great option to stay active without having to worry about the summer sun and reapplying sunscreen.
