Over 160 residents and partners at Moorings Park in Naples painted the Continuing Care Retirement Community’s Goodlette-Frank Road campus red on Friday, February 7 in support of the American Heart Association’s (AHA) 2014 National Wear Red Day. February is American Heart Month and the Wear Red Day is one of several events the AHA is holding to further national recognition of the ongoing fight against cardiovascular diseases, including coronary heart disease and hypertension and stroke, the number one and number four leading causes of death and disability in the United States. Wear Red Day participants at Moorings Park donned red t-shirts and joined in a campus-wide walk to demonstrate their support of the AHA’s efforts.
“One of the key values of Moorings Park is our commitment to our not-for-profit model,” said Moorings Park CEO/President Dan Lavender. “As a result, in order to operate in a way that enhances our community, we are committed to a Social Accountability program. We define Social Accountability by our commitment to our mission, stakeholders, and the greater community. As a result, we make our facilities available to other non-profit institutions. In addition, we partner with over 30 local community organizations including the American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, Champions for Learning, Florida Gulf Coast University, Hodges University, Lorenzo Walker Project Explore, and Habitat for Humanity. Our residents, partners, and employees were extremely pleased and enthused to support the American Heart Association’s National Wear Red Day.”
On Wednesday, February 19, Moorings Park will be recognized with a Platinum Level Designation in the AHA’s Fit-Friendly Worksite program. The program recognizes employers who champion the health of their employees and work to create a culture of physical activity and health in the workplace. The Fit-Friendly Worksite program was instituted by the AHA to support the organization’s commitment to reduce the rate of death from cardiovascular diseases and strokes by 20 percent and to improve the heart health of Americans by 20 percent by the year 2020. Moorings Park is one of just four organizations in Southwest Florida to be recognized as a Fit-Friendly Worksite and the only employer in Collier County to receive the Platinum Level Designation. Moorings Park offers its partners group fitness and wellness programming as well as fitness related educational seminars, nutrition programs, and behavior modification programs.
