At Moorings Park retirement community, a resident-led and funded volunteer Foundation provides a Give Them Wings Scholarship Program which is celebrating fifteen years of giving that will exceed $1 million in 2012.
The Moorings Park Foundation annually provides scholarships to employees and their families as well as childcare benefits. Through the generosity of Moorings Park residents, the $1 million has impacted 645 deserving families and students as part of this ongoing program.
A committee of residents reviews applications from employees and their children who are pursuing further education. Some students are training to become teachers or health care workers while others are studying in various fields ranging from music to engineering.
“The committee members spend many hours reading the transcripts, recommendations, and personal information submitted by the applicants,” said Bill Hecox, Moorings Park Foundation, Inc. Chairman. “We are very impressed by the goals, achievements, and hard work of our scholarship recipients, they are the future.”
